Many people doubt that they can make the changes that they want.
The thing is that we have a voice in our head that trots out all the thoughts that we have been told all our lives. In many cases these are pretty negative. These are just thoughts… and not even your thoughts. You have picked them up over your lifetime.
And you can let them go.
You also have another voice that sometimes stops you and counters these negative thoughts. The voice that tells you “that was wrong… I am not really stupid… etc”. This critic that you often don’t listen to is your real voice coming from who you are.
Practice listening to your real voice and let those other thoughts drift away. It may have been your big brother telling you that you were stupid, or couldn’t do that, or your mother telling you that you were careless or clumsy, your teacher telling you that you were weak at maths because you took longer to understand something or were away sick that day that she explained long division properly, and goodness knows what that bully in the school playground told you.
You are not the accumulation of negatives. You are the quiet critic inside who questions these other ideas sometimes. Practice listening to your quiet critic and get rid of those other ideas. Talking to yourself is healthy especially when you take charge. Say STOP to the negatives and replace them.
